Denying reports that former Defence Minister George Fernandes has gone missing, his wife Leila Kabir said the senior politician is fine and with her, undergoing treatment.

Fernandes is suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and media reports went around that he has gone missing.

“He is in Panchsheel Park (their residence) . He is with me. I want privacy,” she told reporters when contacted.

She said her husband is being treated by Dr J D Mukherjee.

Fernandes’ close aides had alleged that his estranged wife Leila Kabir and his son Sean had forcibly taken him to an undisclosed location for treatment, amid speculations that family controversy over his Rs 25 crore property has played a role in his ‘sudden disappearance’.

“It is a tragedy that a man like George who gave voice to millions of voiceless can’t voice his own problems. His wife is taking advantage of it. We want to know about him,” a close friend of Fernandes, Ajay Singh, told CNN-IBN news channel.
